Sexual Sin Will Destroy You

October 17, 2017 by i5lwl

“Her feet go down to death; her steps follow the path to Sheol; she does not ponder the path of life; her ways wander, and she does not know it.” Proverbs 5:5-6 ESV

Reflect

Friends, may I speak a truth that more women need to hear than we’d like to admit? Good, because I’m going to regardless: sexual sin will destroy you.

You don’t believe me, do you? Maybe you nod your head in agreement, only to continue down a path that reflects disbelief. Surely, you carry within you enough strength to tell your boyfriend “no” when he makes a move, or to stop that “innocent” conversation from turning the corner to a full blown affair. Or maybe you’re like me. Maybe you know exactly where sexual sin takes you because you’ve witnessed it first hand. You’ve felt the shame and the heartbreak grip your soul.

Whether you’re battling thoughts in your mind or pursuing an affair, whether you think your sin is only affecting you or you’re dragging others down with you, here’s where you’re headed: “Her feet go down to death.” (Proverbs 5:5).

There’s a reason the Bible tells us to FLEE sexual sin (1 Cor. 6:18). We flee danger. We bolt when we’re scared, and we should be scared of falling into sexual sin. Not so that we’d live in constant terror of defeat, but so that we would walk in wisdom, refusing to even ponder the path of the wicked and striving to avoid such paths at all costs (Proverbs 4:14-15).

Sisters, it’s crucial that we put up boundaries and safeguards. There is more at stake than we could ever know. We must recognize that we, too, can fall. We think we are stronger than we are, and that’s exactly where Satan wants us. We must hate sin and it’s luring affects. We must treasure Jesus above all.

Pray

Father, we are a weak and needy people. The foolishness of the flesh beckons us to think of ourselves as strong. But your Word reminds us that pride comes before the fall. Help us Lord to rely on you for strength to walk the path of righteousness, fixing our eyes on you. Give us grace to say no when tempted and wisdom to walk in the light. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Your Turn

Is there any sexual sin in your life that you need to repent of? Read Proverbs 4-7 and 1 Corinthians 6:15-20.
