Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. – Matthew 11:28
Reflect
Rest. What an illusive concept that can be. We women have the uncanny ability to overthink and control a lot of things, even the idea of rest. We look to formulas, denial, and dependence upon others. Sooner or later these disappoint usually resulting in exhaustion, hopelessness, and disillusionment. We err when we forget that rest is only found in Jesus, in His order for our days, and in His timetable. It is found completely outside of ourselves. A lack of rest alarms us to the fact that we have sought comfort and refuge in an illusion. Only the benevolent, all-knowing, sovereignly-scarred hands of Jesus are able to lift the heaviness that life can bring and only His shoulders are capable of bearing the load of that which would crush us. He alone is able to navigate the storms that are raging in our hearts and sustains us in this journey with the eternal gifts of living water and life giving bread. May we walk with Him, learn from Him, and experience what He died to provide for us: rest!
Come to Him, be filled, and relish in the abundance that He so eagerly provides.
