And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. 1 John 5:20 ESV
In the educational field, there’s something known as a Pacing Guide. Students need certain skills and proficiencies by year’s end, so teachers plan backwards from end to start. Periodically, we’ll compare lessons to the Pacing Guide to make sure students are on track.
God doesn’t have a Pacing Guide, but there are areas He desires us to grow in as years pass. And while never once have I been intimidated by Christ, there have been moments I’ve found Christianity intimidating. At times I shy away from religious pedigrees and the only Greek or Hebrew words I know are “pita” and “shalom.” Church history or explaining the book of Revelation confuse me. Studying Christ in any form is a worthy pursuit and it’s incredible to be able to go within the church body and ask others about something that stumps us. But that doesn’t mean we can’t seek to know Him more ourselves. The only requirement for scholarship of Christ is willingness. Look at who followed after Him during His earthly ministry. All ages, sex, education and creed were invited to come and know the Christ. That invitation stands today, into the new year, and as long as He takes to return. So get out there, ask questions, check out a book, seek Him and find Him on a deeper level. Let’s all choose to know more of our Savior, God and King this year.
