Flee from Sexual Immorality

October 5, 2018 by i5lwl

“Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.” 1 Corinthians 6:18

Reflect

This is for the woman, young or old, who has made a preemptive strike on living under the same roof and sharing bed before the covenant of marriage with a man who is not her husband. This strike may seem like a good idea, then and now, but in a loving exhortation and warning, I am here to tell you it is not. And you are, indeed, playing with fire.

The Bible tells us distinctively we are to flee from sexual immorality (1 Corinthians 6:18). This may mean to some of us that as long as we are not engaging in sexual behavior physically, then we are okay. But just because we’re careful to not touch a hot stove doesn’t mean there aren’t consequences for getting too close. It can still do damage. And the Bible is clear we should flee from it, which means staying away from it and not going near it.

Scripture goes on to speak about the appearance of evil in every shape or form (1 Thessalonians 5:22). What is in the dark is eventually exposed to others. Your actions in your walk in Christ are not only of great importance to you but to those who walk it out with you. How can we proclaim the goodness and mercies of God in Christ Jesus if we are doing something He tells us directly to stay away from? We must be wise to do what He says and not just foolishly listen with no application.

Dear sister, if this man you are with does not know Christ, you are unequally yoked with a burden that will become too painful to bear (2 Corinthians 6:14). And if this man proclaims Christ, he is charged to lead you away from sin – not freely into it. That’s what our Savior does for us.

Pray

Father God, for any of us who are wayward with the warped perversion of what You have ordained for marriage only, please lead us to Christ and find forgiveness there, by the power of Your Spirit. Help us to turn from our fleshly and worldly standards and cling to Your good and perfect ways. Amen.

Your Turn

It is not too late to submit to the truth of Christ and His word in this area of life. Whatever you dare to lose, Christ is the better gain. Let’s do what pleases our Lord and not what our sin and society thinks is right.
